Back to the oil spill - the catastrophe that brought us here.

St Petersburg is where NOAA's headquarters office for the Gulf region is located.  This is where NOAA's regional planning and management occur.  It's not where the oil is.  At least not now.

According to NOAA modeling, the probablitiy of oil showing up here are low - 20% or less.

The probability of oil showing up in the Florida Keys and on east coast beaches are much higher - up to 80% - due to the Loop Current.

While we may be spared the sight of tar balls on beaches here, I wonder, what will be the response to the desecration of fragile reefs and beaches in the Keys, and long popular beaches of Miami and Ft. Lauderdale?

I can imagine resident outrage and feverish cable news reports. I strain to imagine any response from BP. And daily hope to see a more aggressive response from the White House.
